Team Lead

Yiannis Psaras

Motivated by data. Driven by analytics. Passionate about all things networking.

Yiannis joined Protocol Labs in 2019 to work on the content-addressable web (aka IPFS). Over the years he got involved with several projects, including libp2p, IPFS, Filecoin and drand. His expertise lies on the networking stack, the protocol and architecture design of distributed, Internet-connected systems.

His passion for rigorous analysis of networked systems led him to start the ProbeLab team in late 2021 to identify weaknesses of IPFS using top-notch measurement methodologies and tooling. The team initially focused on IPFS and Filecoin as core products of Protocol Labs' InterPlanetary stack.

In January 2024, the ProbeLab team became an independent entity that focuses on libp2p-based networks more generally.

In a previous life, Yiannis was an academic at University College London (UCL), where he carried out research on Internet protocols and future Internet architectures. Most of his research contributions can be found in Google Scholar.
